Progressive Labor Party on Race & Racism

OUR FIGHT

Progressive Labor Party (PLP) fights to destroy capitalism and the dictatorship of the capitalist class. We organize workers, soldiers and youth into a revolutionary movement for communism.

Only the dictatorship of the working class — communism — can provide a lasting solution to the disaster that is today’s world for billions of people. This cannot be done through electoral politics, but requires a revolutionary movement and a mass Red Army led by PLP.

Worldwide capitalism, in its relentless drive for profit, inevitably leads to war, fascism, poverty, disease, starvation and environmental destruction. The capitalist class, through its state power — governments, armies, police, schools and culture —  maintains a dictatorship over the world’s workers. The capitalist dictatorship supports, and is supported by, the anti-working-class ideologies of racism, sexism, nationalism, individualism and religion.

While the bosses and their mouthpieces claim “communism is dead,” capitalism is the real failure for billions worldwide. Capitalism returned to Russia and China because socialism retained many aspects of the profit system, like wages and privileges. Russia and China did not establish communism.

Communism means working collectively to build a worker-run society. We will abolish work for wages, money and profits. Everyone will share in society’s benefits and burdens.

Communism means abolishing racism and the concept of “race.” Capitalism uses racism to super-exploit black, Latino, Asian and indigenous workers, and to divide the entire working class.

Communism means abolishing the special oppression of women — sexism — and divisive gender roles created by the class society.

Communism means abolishing nations and nationalism. One international working class, one world, one Party.

Communism means that the minds of millions of workers must become free from religion’s false promises, unscientific thinking and poisonous ideology. Communism will triumph when the masses of workers can use the science of dialectical materialism to understand, analyze and change the world to meet their needs and aspirations.

Communism means the Party leads every aspect of society. For this to work, millions of workers — eventually everyone — must become communist organizers. Join Us!

PL’ers bring ideas of multiracial unity and communism to rally

BROOKLYN, July 16—A small group of Progressive Labor Party (PLP) members joined a rally calling for an hour of “Black vulnerability.” The crowd that gathered was multiracial and multi-generational. Before the speeches began, the PL’ers walked through the crowd, distributed CHALLENGE, and had conversations with many workers.

Profit system, a petri dish for disease

Capitalist agricultural practices have led to devastating diseases caused by global virus outbreaks that have been occurring with increasing frequency: AIDS (1981), SARS (2002), Ebola (2014), and now Covid-19. Putting profit before people has increased the number and impact of zoonotic (traced to wild animals) viruses.
As long as capitalism continues to ravish the earth, humanity will suffer from more and more of these diseases. Communism, a system that works to meet people’s needs instead of for private profits, is the only viable alternative to capitalist death and destruction.

PLP History: The summer of smashing racists

The Progressive Labor Party (PLP) has a long history of fighting racism in the Bronx, Queens, and New Jersey. When Black workers are under racist attack, all workers have to stand up and fight back.
On June 21, 2020, and again on July 5, 2020, the New York Times ran a story with a short video about an attack in the summer of 1975 by some racist white residents on a group of Black teenagers as they  were riding their bikes through residential Rosedale, Queens (New York City). The racists waved an American flag, chanted “Civil Rights for Whites,” and threw rocks and hurled racist insults at the Black teens that happened to be passing by. One racist was  even seen on the news video saying they wanted the teens out “because they’re Black!” Much like today, this was a time when the main wing of the U.S. ruling class was trying to distance themselves from gutter racism that had served them well in previous eras.
In 1975, PLP organized quickly against this racist upsurge. We marched, demonstrated, leafletted the area, confronted, and smashed the racist group that had been formed in the New York City-Rosedale area.

Cecile Rol-Tanguy, a leader against fascism

Communists strive to serve the working class by boldly providing leadership to the working-class struggle, modestly and without the bombast of the bosses’ politicians. Cecile Rol-Tanguy, a model for all of us, died earlier this year on May 8, 2020 at the age of 101. You probably never heard of her, but her life is an inspiration in our battle against the catastrophic effects of capitalism.
Communists’ historic role has been to warn of war and fight fascism, which is capitalism at its late state. As fascism continues to rise worldwide, we look back at how our predecessors have fought fascism around World War II.

Letters of August 5

One club’s efforts to organize during pandemic
The time spent confined due to the pandemic has been a time of action that started since the beginning of quarantine.  Our club has been very active having virtual meetings and group studies with friends.  We have also been participating in the meetings and activities organized by the community organization, where we are building our base.  We have been a part of their campaigns to cancel rents; close the immigration jails,

Russian bounties expose liberal fascists

The allegations that Russia paid cash bounties to the Taliban to kill U.S. troops in Afghanistan, with no response from the floundering U.S. government, is yet another sign of the decay of U.S. imperialism. Facing an out-of-control pandemic, a full-blown economic depression, and mass fightback against the racist kkkops, the U.S. ruling class is in crisis. Their institutions are in freefall. Their leadership—both Republican and Democrat—is incompetent and divided.
For the international working class and the revolutionary communist party that must lead it, the resulting chaos is both an opportunity and a danger. For the first time in many years, masses of workers are openly seeking alternatives to the bankrupt profit system. But we must also be aware that intensified state terror and inter-imperialist global war are heading our way.

Smash CPD, Abolish Racism

CHICAGO—Dozens of Black, white, and Latin women and men of all ages shut down streets on the city’s west side. The bold actions of these anti-racist fighters peaked with a demonstration in front of the District 10 Chicago Police Department (CPD) station. As more people joined in, the killer Klan-in-blue made a hasty retreat into the station. Progressive Labor Party (PLP) participated and helped lead, promoting communist revolution as the solution to racist killer cops.

On the question of racism: Black workers’ leadership key to communist revolution

Readers of CHALLENGE are aware of Progressive Labor Party’s(PLP) insistence upon the centrality of the struggle against racism to the fight for working-class liberation. The history of this strategic communist emphasis reveals the importance of proletarian (that is, working-class) internationalism in both theory and practice.

Abolish NYPD, build school for communism

I am a junior at a mostly Black and Latin high school. My school has had metal detectors for decades, so I am no stranger to the racist over-policing and criminalization of Black and Latin youth in public schools.
I get to the front of the line with all of my metal items and electronics in a basket and when I have to get hand-wanded, I know that I have to stand with my feet shoulder-width apart and my arms out. I don’t need to hold onto something when I have to lift my feet up so they can scan the bottom of my shoes. This is because I have been doing this every day since the 6th grade.
The DOE (Department of Education)  has perpetuated into my daily life since I was 11 years old, that I am a suspect before I am a student.

Pakistan: capitalism is the virus

PAKISTAN—Here, as in any place generally, unemployment and the high cost of living make workers desperate to find jobs.  During the Covid-19 pandemic especially, however, the Pakistani bosses have been playing even deadlier games with the lives of working class people. The bosses here are using the pandemic crisis to boost their regional political power by intensifying working class exploitation and increasing profits.
Communists in the Progressive Labor Party (PLP) here have been organizing the working class to fight back and for a world where we produce everything that is essential and vital for life. Only communist revolution can defeat the coronavirus pandemic and the virus of capitalism, as capitalism proves itself again incapable and uninterested in protecting working class life.
