Street Battles with Cops Chile: Massive Student, Miner Strikes Need Red Anti-Nationalist Ideas

CHILE — Showing the fighting spirit of the working class, students and workers have united in a massive reform struggle for access to education and better wages. They organized a strike against the right-wing president Sebastian Pinera. Well over a half a million workers and students took to the streets and fought pitched battles with the cops, who killed one young teen.
Sick of the fact that education is becoming increasingly privatized and priced out of reach, many young people have been protesting for months to have access to education. The mass number of student struggles entered a new stage as it merged with the currrent miners’ struggle. This unity has worried the Chilean ruling class.
The students and workers in Chile are an inspiration to the international working class. Their spirit is a necessary ingredient in the struggle to lift us from the hell of capitalism. Unfortunately, a key ingredient — revolutionary communist leadership — is missing. The reformism and revisionism (fake leftists) that currently dominate place absolute limits on the struggle. Hundreds of thousands of workers and students chanting, “The people united will never be defeated” is a testament to how politically misled the movement is. There are fewer more bankrupt and dangerously misleading phrases than “the people” (including the bosses) as it hides class content and make one wonder, which people? Communist leadership will transform this chant into “The workers united will never be defeated.”
The false ideologies of nationalism and reformism are misleading the massive display of workers’ power into a dead-end struggle against a figurehead, instead of placing the blame solely upon the capitalist system.
These struggles are exciting to watch and will hopefully inspire future student struggle from South Africa’s young people to the Europe and the U.S. But, the workers and students of Chile need to build the revolutionary Progressive Labor Party because capitalism can never meet the needs of the working class.

The reformism/revisionism has dominated this fight, by the access to the capitalist education of the prevailing system in Chile (in particular) and in the world (in general).
Even though “the politicians of the system” have tried to hide their evident influence in this fight, they have not been able to hide their reformism/revisionism claws.
The majority of the young leaders in this movement belong to some of the political parties of the system (Socialist party, PPD, PDC, Chilean PC, etc) and, evidently, they obey to its respective political lines. No doubts about it! This is a fight to reform the access and administration of the system education. Nothing else! In addition, It is good to emphasize that they have been erroneously using irresponsible forms of fighting like hunger strikes (liquid as much as dry).
The reforming policy/revisionism controls the official opposite politics in Chile, and its evident fundamental aim is to recover the power that they lost after governing by near 20 years (more time than the one use by the regime of Pinochet dictatorship). The Chilean PC always has been reformist/revisionist and has played its cards in its own political benefit forgetting, by far, its reason of being.
In Chile they continue supporting wrong strategies similar to the ones that helped to generate the disaster of the military coup of the year 1973 which ended with the life of the president, also reformist, Salvador Allende G. The nationalism, for example, continues playing a fundamental roll, and the erroneous reformist leadership frequently generates ambiguous and not clear situations to the eyes of the workers.
The capitalist education and its reforms will be never able to satisfy the worker’s needs. Under capitalism the education system is designed to keep the system running. So, no reform whatsoever will be able to change really anything. The real fight must be to change the direction of the economy to satisfy the worker’s needs and not to generate more wealth for the richer ones. The change must be TOTAL and not partial.
The only solution is real the communist revolution and only the PLP line fights for this change.
