Progressive Labor Party on Race & Racism

OUR FIGHT

Progressive Labor Party (PLP) fights to destroy capitalism and the dictatorship of the capitalist class. We organize workers, soldiers and youth into a revolutionary movement for communism.

Only the dictatorship of the working class — communism — can provide a lasting solution to the disaster that is today’s world for billions of people. This cannot be done through electoral politics, but requires a revolutionary movement and a mass Red Army led by PLP.

Worldwide capitalism, in its relentless drive for profit, inevitably leads to war, fascism, poverty, disease, starvation and environmental destruction. The capitalist class, through its state power — governments, armies, police, schools and culture —  maintains a dictatorship over the world’s workers. The capitalist dictatorship supports, and is supported by, the anti-working-class ideologies of racism, sexism, nationalism, individualism and religion.

While the bosses and their mouthpieces claim “communism is dead,” capitalism is the real failure for billions worldwide. Capitalism returned to Russia and China because socialism retained many aspects of the profit system, like wages and privileges. Russia and China did not establish communism.

Communism means working collectively to build a worker-run society. We will abolish work for wages, money and profits. Everyone will share in society’s benefits and burdens.

Communism means abolishing racism and the concept of “race.” Capitalism uses racism to super-exploit black, Latino, Asian and indigenous workers, and to divide the entire working class.

Communism means abolishing the special oppression of women — sexism — and divisive gender roles created by the class society.

Communism means abolishing nations and nationalism. One international working class, one world, one Party.

Communism means that the minds of millions of workers must become free from religion’s false promises, unscientific thinking and poisonous ideology. Communism will triumph when the masses of workers can use the science of dialectical materialism to understand, analyze and change the world to meet their needs and aspirations.

Communism means the Party leads every aspect of society. For this to work, millions of workers — eventually everyone — must become communist organizers. Join Us!

Criminal rulers mandate profit over workers’ health

On January 3, as the two-year-old, out-of-control pandemic exposed the criminal incompetence and callous negligence of capitalism, infections hit a record 2.4 million workers worldwide—a fast-advancing “tsunami,” said the World Health Organization (WHO). In the U.S., as the Joe Biden administration pushed sick people back to work to keep the bosses’ profits flowing, the National Guard is propping up hospitals on the brink of collapse. In Argentina, where President Alberto Fernández downplayed the pandemic and promoted fake miracle cures, the positivity rate for Covid-19 tests reached 56 percent, or more than five times what WHO considers a crisis (Buenos Aires Times, 1/5). In France, one of the world’s hottest hot spots, Covid patients occupied 72 percent of available intensive care beds (modernghana.com, 1/5). In Africa, health officials are bracing for the devastation of a mostly unvaccinated population (NYT, 12/25/21).

Newark families fight police terror, harassment

NEWARK, NJ - A multiracial group of over 25 workers rallied in downtown Newark to call for the immediate release of Justin Rodwell and to get the charges dropped against the Rodwell/Spivey brothers. Since June 2021, the Newark Police Department (NPD) has stalked, harassed, terrorized, and arrested members of the Rodwell/Spivey family, after undercover police illegally and brutally stopped and frisked one of their family members and the Rodwell/Spivey brothers and their neighbors bravely stepped in.

Collectivity must win over competition Student athletes lead in fight against racism

BROOKLYN, NY, December 15–In the ongoing  struggle to make antiracism primary in the varsity sports at the multi-school John Jay Campus, students took the lead in a virtual forum that drew nearly 100 participants. Organized by parents, teachers, and students, the forum—“Are We One?”—gave students an opportunity to push adults on campus, including members of Progressive Labor Party (PLP), to be self-critical about the athletic program’s integration efforts, which have disappointed a number of Black and Latin student athletes. In their drive to improve those efforts, the students also demanded that antiracism and collectivity—not wins and losses—should be the main measures of a successful season for a sports team.
The leadership of Black youth—the ones most brutally targeted by this racist system–continues to be central to this process. Building antiracist, integrated teams on and off the court is one way to crack the racist divisions that are normalized by the Department of Education (DoE) and the Public Schools Athletic League (PSAL).

Murderous LAPD hides behind liberal racism

LOS ANGELES, December 23 - Just two days before Christmas, the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) murdered 14-year-old Valentina Orellana Peralta and 24-year-old Daniel Elena Lopez in a Burlington Coat Factory in North Hollywood. These two young Latin workers join the long list of workers, including Alex Flores, whose lives have been stolen by the racist LAPD. By the end of 2021 the murderous LAPD had taken twice as many lives as in the prior year (LA Times, 12/27/21). Even in the face of these rising numbers, Progressive Labor Party (PLP), alongside the families of lost workers, continues to fight back against this whole damn capitalist system.

In 2021 the international working class said: STAND UP FIGHT BACK!

The year 2021 affirmed how workers worldwide are fed up with this diseased system. Capitalism functions on this logic: capitalists profit from exploitation and division, thus mangling or killing us, then use reforms to strangle any rising working-class consciousness. When we recollect that 281 million workers have been infected by Covid-19 and 5 million are dead, we realize just how deadly reforms are for our class. Nothing short of communism will immunize workers and youth from the horrors of this profit system.

CDC says Can’t Disrupt Capitalism

As the ruling-class owned CDC announced that Covid-19 infections only require a five-day quarantine instead of 10, workers worldwide can see that this decision is profit driven (see editorial, page 2).

Letters of January 19

Jan 1 soup celebrates liberation from slavery
January 1 is an important date for the working class in Haiti, but not for the reason you may think. There is a tradition of eating soup joumou today, which celebrates the victory of the revolutionaries of Haitian independence in 1804 over racism, slavery, and colonialism, and therefore against the domination and exploitation of capitalism. January 1 marks the liberation from chattel slavery and the formation of the world’s first Black republic, Haiti. Under slavery, this thick stew with meat and vegetables  was reserved only for the enslavers and other exploiters.

‘Green Revolution,’ Rockefeller’s ploy to superexploit migrant workers

MEXICO—The “Green Revolution” of the 1950’s was a ploy of the Rockefeller Foundation to sell high-yield wheat—along with fertilizer and pesticides—to Mexico. In 1938, President Cardenas nationalized the oil industry, cutting out Rockefeller’s Standard Oil interests. Cardenas promoted land reform, but restricted it under the laws of capitalism. Later in 1943,  President Manuel Ávila Camacho, promoted industrialization. Camacho saw Rockefeller and his Green Revolution as a way to move the workforce off the urban farmlands into the factories as cheap labor.

Ukraine: Flashpoint for Inter-Imperialist War?

The bourgeoisie of all countries … covers its predatory aims with “national” ideology, [which] inevitably creates … revolutionary sentiments in the masses. Our duty is to help make these sentiments conscious.
--Vladimir Lenin, “Turn Imperialist War Into Civil War” (1915)

Russia’s massing of troops on the border of U.S.-backed Ukraine is one more step toward World War III. Notwithstanding the Joe Biden-Vladimir Putin video conference “in an effort to defuse a growing military crisis” (New York Times, 12/7), the U.S. and Russia are on a collision course. Politicians represent the capitalist ruling class interests behind them, the biggest banks and corporations. Since there are limited markets to control and limited resources and workers to exploit, the U.S. and Russian capitalist gangs are locked in a constant, deadly competition.
