Progressive Labor Party on Race & Racism

OUR FIGHT

Progressive Labor Party (PLP) fights to destroy capitalism and the dictatorship of the capitalist class. We organize workers, soldiers and youth into a revolutionary movement for communism.

Only the dictatorship of the working class — communism — can provide a lasting solution to the disaster that is today’s world for billions of people. This cannot be done through electoral politics, but requires a revolutionary movement and a mass Red Army led by PLP.

Worldwide capitalism, in its relentless drive for profit, inevitably leads to war, fascism, poverty, disease, starvation and environmental destruction. The capitalist class, through its state power — governments, armies, police, schools and culture —  maintains a dictatorship over the world’s workers. The capitalist dictatorship supports, and is supported by, the anti-working-class ideologies of racism, sexism, nationalism, individualism and religion.

While the bosses and their mouthpieces claim “communism is dead,” capitalism is the real failure for billions worldwide. Capitalism returned to Russia and China because socialism retained many aspects of the profit system, like wages and privileges. Russia and China did not establish communism.

Communism means working collectively to build a worker-run society. We will abolish work for wages, money and profits. Everyone will share in society’s benefits and burdens.

Communism means abolishing racism and the concept of “race.” Capitalism uses racism to super-exploit black, Latino, Asian and indigenous workers, and to divide the entire working class.

Communism means abolishing the special oppression of women — sexism — and divisive gender roles created by the class society.

Communism means abolishing nations and nationalism. One international working class, one world, one Party.

Communism means that the minds of millions of workers must become free from religion’s false promises, unscientific thinking and poisonous ideology. Communism will triumph when the masses of workers can use the science of dialectical materialism to understand, analyze and change the world to meet their needs and aspirations.

Communism means the Party leads every aspect of society. For this to work, millions of workers — eventually everyone — must become communist organizers. Join Us!

RED EYE ON THE NEWS ... November 16, 2022

U.S. prepares plans for world war Foreign Affairs, 10/27–In its recent National Security Strategy, the White House wrote that “the [People’s Republic of China] and Russia are increasingly aligned with each other,”...the conflict in Ukraine is likely to be protracted…Chinese leader Xi Jinping…could try to seize Taiwan as the war in Ukraine rages on…China’s expanding interests and global footprint suggest that a war with Beijing would not be confined neatly to Taiwan and the western Pacific but instead stretch across multiple theaters, from the Indian Ocean to the United States itself.

Worker to worker: Rodwell-Spivey organizing continues Last month, a group of comrades in Newark, NJ canvassed with Monique Rodwell, the mother of the Rodwell-Spivey brothers, in front of Save-A-Lot, a grocery store on Springfield Ave, (a street that was the site of the ‘67 Newark Rebellion) where we spoke to people and asked them to sign petitions. It was fantastic; we reached out to a lot of people. We got feedback about racial profiling and housing issues. Most of the residents were vocal about politicians who only came around when it was election time. When asked if they thought things were different since the election of Newark’s mayor, they all said nothing has changed. If anything, things have gotten worse.

EDITORIAL...Ukraine Escalation: Fascism & War Ahead

As the military conflict in Ukraine escalates, it shows just how unstable the world situation is today. With U.S. imperialists deeply divided and in steep decline, Western Europe in political chaos, Russian imperialists aligning with U.S. arch-rival China, and both rulers and workers beset by the latest international crisis of capitalism, competing bosses are speeding toward full-blown fascism and World War III. Over the last two weeks alone, Ukraine’s nazi-laden military—propped up by the U.S. and European Union—blasted a critical Russian supply line in Crimea and shelled the Russian-controlled city of Donetsk. Russia retaliated with strikes on Kyiv, the Ukrainian capital, using cruise missiles and drones supplied by Iran, another U.S. arch-enemy.

#RiseUptown ‘We won’t back down!’

CHICAGO, October 18– A resilient and resourceful collective of multiracial fighters is keeping up the fight to demand safe and supportive housing against the capitalist bosses and their politician lackeys. In spite of plunging autumn temperatures and countless other obstacles, #RiseUptown grows with working-class support. Safe housing and livable housing conditions are in diametrical opposition to the needs of capitalism. We will continue to face this nightmare until we organize a mass international communist party to smash capitalism and build a new egalitarian world built on our collective needs and development.

Bolshevik Revolution: Workers seized power

One hundred and five years ago, November 7, 1917, marked the beginning of the single most important event of the 20th century, the Bolshevik Revolution, which directly inspired the Chinese Revolution and anti-imperialist struggles around the world from Vietnam to Africa to Latin America. THE WORKING CLASS SEIZED STATE POWER UNDER THE COMMUNIST LEADERSHIP OF THE BOLSHEVIKS

Flunk Capitalism: School grades control students

BROOKLYN, NY, October 8–Members of Progressive Labor Party (PLP) hosted a study group of over 20 teachers and students from different countries to discuss the role of grading in a capitalist system. The discussion opened up with a report back from communist teachers who were involved in a rally earlier that day to garner support for Raymond Chaluisant, an 18-year old Latin teen who was murdered by the kkkops in the Bronx in July (see last issue).

HAITI: SMASH U.S. IMPERIALISM

Washington, DC, October 19—Over 100 protestors rallied in defiance of a possible U.S. imperialist invasion of Haiti. Progressive Labor Party (PLP) members joined this action, making contacts with fighters and bringing revolutionary communist politics to many participants by distributing CHALLENGE widely and pushing political leadership condemning inter-imperialist rivalry. RETIREES FIGHT RACIST HEALTHCARE CUTS

NEW YORK CITY, October 12—Hundreds of retired New York City workers rallied outside of city hall today in a continuing struggle to prevent reductions in their health benefits. Retirees have been fighting for over a year against a plan to force them into privatized medical insurance, the Medicare Advantage plan, rather than traditional medicare coverage with city paid secondary insurance. The original plan was for premiums of $191.00 monthly per person to be charged for those who wanted to opt out of the Medicare Advantage plan. This racist plan meant that low income retirees (disproportionately Black and Latin) would be unable to afford to opt out.

The Red Ball of Demolition: Communists vs Capitalist Housing, Part 1: 'The beginning of the revolt'

The following 7-part series is reprinted and lightly edited from the Communist Newspaper Daily Worker in September-October, 1932, written by famous communist Mike Gold. Workers here are referred to as Black instead of the original “Negro” to reflect our antiracist priniciples as well as the linguistic shifts that occurred over decades of antiracist class struggle. Communists have a long history of fighting against racist attacks on our class. One such fight was against landlords and evictions. In the early 1930s, amid Jim Crow segregation, a great depression with record unemployment levels that sunk the working class—particularly Black workers living in the urban industrial core—into deeper poverty and despair, the Communist Party in the U.S. (CPUSA) was fighting for revolution inside U.S. borders.

RED EYE ON THE NEW ... November 2, 2022

Capitalist powers choosing sides as world gears up for growing war Al Jazeera, 10/16–United States President Joe Biden has “no plans'' to meet with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman at next month’s G20 summit in Indonesia, a senior US official says, as tensions over the OPEC+ decision to cut oil production continue to reverberate. Relations between the US and Saudi Arabia are on thin ice over the oil production cuts. Last week, the Riyadh-led OPEC cartel and an additional group of 10 other oil producers headed by Russia decided to reduce global output by up to two million barrels per day from November.
